The Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway has completed five years of operation, emerging as a key driver of economic activity and improved connectivity across China's Xizang region.
Since becoming operational in June 2021, the electrified railway has linked southeastern Xizang with the regional capital, making travel faster and supporting the movement of passengers and freight across the plateau.
The rail corridor has contributed to the growth of tourism, particularly in scenic destinations such as Gala Village, which is known for its annual peach blossom season. Local authorities say the village has earned more than 3 million yuan in tourism revenue so far this year as visitor numbers continue to rise.
Beyond tourism, the railway has strengthened logistics for local industries. Improved transportation has enabled producers to send larger quantities of Xizang's natural mineral water to markets outside the region, with shipments exceeding 630,000 tonnes over the past five years.
Officials say the railway has also encouraged the flow of investment, goods and services, helping create new business opportunities and supporting long-term regional development.
As it enters its sixth year, the Lhasa-Nyingchi Railway continues to play an important role in expanding economic links and improving transportation across Xizang, highlighting the growing importance of modern infrastructure in the region.
