In harsh battlefield conditions, even the smallest environmental factors can compromise a soldier’s weapon. Dust, sand, and water are among the biggest threats to firearms, especially in war zones such as deserts, marshlands, and rainy terrains. To counter this issue, soldiers across various armed forces have adopted a surprisingly simple yet effective solution—covering the muzzle (front opening) of their guns with condoms. This unconventional technique helps prevent debris, moisture, and mud from entering the barrel, which could otherwise lead to malfunction or misfiring during critical moments. The practice is particularly useful in sandy environments where fine particles can easily clog the weapon. Experts say that condoms are ideal for this purpose because they are highly elastic, waterproof, and extremely thin. Despite being placed over the gun barrel, they do not interfere with the firing process. When a bullet is discharged, the condom tears instantly without affecting the trajectory or speed of the projectile. Military sources indicate that this method has been used for decades and is often preferred due to its low cost, easy availability, and reliability in extreme conditions. It is also quicker and more practical than repeatedly cleaning weapons during active combat.
