Women Employees Honoured at Diesel Loco Shed on International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day celebrated at Vijayawada Diesel Loco Shed; renovated Ladies’ Rest Room inaugurated by Versha Sonakiya.

International Women’s Day was celebrated with enthusiasm at the Diesel Loco Shed in Vijayawada under the South Central Railway Vijayawada Division, recognising the significant contribution of women employees to the railway workforce. The programme was attended by Versha Sonakiya, President of the SCR Women’s Welfare Organisation (SCRWWO), Vijayawada Division, along with G. Udaya Bhaskar, Divisional Mechanical Engineer of the Diesel Loco Shed, officials and members of the Women’s Welfare Organisation. At present, 24 women employees are working at the Diesel Loco Shed out of a total workforce of around 300 staff. As part of welfare initiatives for women staff, the renovated Ladies’ Rest Room at the shed was inaugurated by Versha Sonakiya in the presence of Veena Chandana, Vice President of SCRWWO, Vijayawada Division, and other executive members. During the visit, Versha Sonakiya interacted with the women employees and also toured the working areas of the shed.

 Addressing the gathering, she encouraged the women staff to make effective use of their time and continue contributing actively in their professional roles. She also appreciated the railway administration for organising Women’s Day celebrations and arranging sports and cultural activities for the women employees. As part of the celebrations, sports and cultural competitions were conducted, and the winners were felicitated with mementos in recognition of their participation and achievements.

The event reflected the commitment of the Vijayawada Division towards promoting the welfare, empowerment and recognition of women employees in the Railways.
