Visakhapatnam, March 19: Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee President Y. S. Sharmila continued her MGNREGA Protection Yatra in Visakhapatnam district, receiving an overwhelming response from locals in Korada village of Bheemili constituency. During the Rachabanda interaction, villagers voiced anger over drought conditions, lack of employment opportunities, and alleged failure of the coalition government to fulfill its promises. Several residents highlighted hardships faced due to irregular work availability under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
Addressing the gathering, Sharmila explained the benefits of MGNREGA in supporting rural livelihoods and accused the Centre of introducing policies like VB G-RAM G, which she claimed could adversely impact the scheme and rural workers. She stressed the need to safeguard and strengthen MGNREGA to ensure continued support for vulnerable communities. The Congress leader also mobilized public support for the restoration and effective implementation of the rural employment guarantee scheme, stating that the yatra aims to bring grassroots issues to the forefront.
