A major step towards modernising passenger travel, Indian Railways has unveiled the upgraded interior design of its next-generation Amrit Bharat coaches, with a sample coach now ready for inspection. The Hon’ble Minister of Railways inspected the newly developed sample coaches featuring the proposed interior design and colour schemes at New Delhi Railway Station on April 4, 2026. These redesigned coaches have been developed with a focus on enhancing passenger comfort, visual appeal, and overall travel experience.
The interiors feature distinct and coordinated colour themes, bringing a fresh, modern, and elegant look to the coaches. According to railway officials, the upgraded coaches include carefully selected shades across various components such as PVC flooring, seat and berth rexine, snack tables, curtains, and lavatory areas. The aim is to create a uniform, stylish, and passenger-friendly environment while also ensuring long-term durability and easy maintenance. A key highlight of the upgraded design is that all materials used in the coaches comply with HL3 fire safety standards, reinforcing Indian Railways’ commitment to passenger safety along with improved aesthetics.
Officials said the initiative is part of Indian Railways’ ongoing mission to modernise rolling stock, improve onboard ambience, and deliver a safe, comfortable, and world-class travel experience for passengers across all categories. The introduction of the next-generation Amrit Bharat coaches is expected to significantly improve the quality of rail travel and reflect the broader transformation underway in India’s railway infrastructure.
