The Vijayawada Division of South Central Railway celebrated Railway Week with grandeur at the Railway Auditorium in Vijayawada on Thursday. Senior railway officials, led by Divisional Railway Manager Mohit Sonakiya, attended the event. Speaking on the occasion, the DRM said the division recorded remarkable achievements during the 2025–26 financial year, generating a record revenue of ₹5,939 crore and handling 40.64 million tonnes of freight — the highest in its history. He noted that operational performance also improved significantly, with train punctuality reaching nearly 87 percent. Highlighting infrastructure progress, the DRM said the division expanded capacity through new third-line works, introduced automatic block signalling, renewed tracks extensively, and eliminated several long-standing speed restrictions. Passenger convenience was enhanced through upgraded station infrastructure, installation of lifts and escalators, and operation of more than 5,000 special trains during high-demand periods.
The DRM also commended efforts in railway safety, solar energy initiatives, and maintenance improvements across locomotives and wagons. During the celebrations, 58 railway employees received Rail Seva Awards for their dedicated service, while 12 staff members were specially recognised for outstanding humanitarian and public service contributions. The event concluded with officials applauding the workforce for its commitment and contribution to the division’s success.
