Google’s $15 Billion AI Data Center to Put Visakhapatnam on Global Tech Map Amaravati, April 26: In a landmark development set to redefine Andhra Pradesh’s technological landscape, Google is gearing up to establish a massive AI data center in Visakhapatnam. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu will lay the foundation stone for the project on April 28 at Tarluvada. With an investment of $15 billion, this will be one of the largest foreign direct investments in India’s tech infrastructure sector, marking a new chapter in the state’s digital growth story.

The proposed hyperscale AI data center, with a capacity of 1 gigawatt, is expected to position Visakhapatnam as a strategic AI hub not just in India but across Asia. The project will significantly enhance cloud infrastructure capabilities, enabling large-scale data storage and advanced AI computing services. With global connectivity through upcoming subsea cable systems, the city is poised to become a critical node in international data exchange networks. Spread across nearly 600 acres in Tarluvada, Adavivaram, and Rambilli regions, the data center project will be developed in collaboration with key industry players like AdaniConneX and Nxtra by Airtel. The state government aims to build a multi-gigawatt digital hub with a total capacity of 6.5 GW, reinforcing its ambition to attract global investments through its “Speed of Doing Business” policy framework.

Beyond infrastructure, the initiative is expected to generate significant employment opportunities for youth across various high-tech domains, including artificial intelligence, cloud operations, cybersecurity, data science, and network engineering. The project will also stimulate ancillary industries such as power systems, cooling technologies, server manufacturing, and telecom networking, fostering a robust AI ecosystem in the region. With the arrival of Google and growing interest from other global tech firms, Visakhapatnam is rapidly transforming from a port city into a “data city.”

The development is further complemented by upcoming infrastructure projects like the Bhogapuram International Airport. Aligning with India’s Viksit Bharat 2047 vision, Andhra Pradesh is positioning itself as a global technology hub, with this mega AI data center serving as a defining milestone.
