Vijayawada Division of South Coast Railway celebrated World Environment Day 2026, marking the successful completion of its environmental awareness campaign conducted from May 15 to June 5.
Led by DRM Mohit Sonakiya, the programme highlighted the Division’s commitment to climate change mitigation, environmental conservation and sustainable railway operations. As part of the campaign, environmental pledge programmes were conducted at 43 locations, 1,060 saplings were planted under the ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative, and 158 awareness programmes, 25 health awareness programmes and 27 signature campaigns were organised. Nukkad Natak performances and activities involving Scouts & Guides also helped spread awareness on environmental protection. The DRM felicitated 15 employees for their contribution to green initiatives and released the annual Environmental Initiatives brochure. Seven additional stations—Singarayakonda, Bapatla, Machilipatnam, Pithapuram, Palakollu, Tanuku and Kavali—received ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System Certification, taking the total number of certified stations in the Division to 27.
