THIRUVANANTHAPURAM | July 2
The Kerala government has objected to the proposed acquisition of a 49% stake in Adani Vizhinjam Port Private Ltd. by Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), saying the announcement was made without prior consultation with the state.
The government said it has conveyed its strong displeasure to the management of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd. over the development.
According to the state, any change in the shareholding pattern of the concessionaire requires prior approval from the Kerala government under the terms of the concession agreement and applicable regulations.
Officials said the proposed transaction will be examined strictly in accordance with the provisions of the agreement before any decision is taken.
The state also reiterated its commitment to protecting Kerala's interests while continuing to develop Vizhinjam Port as a globally competitive transshipment hub.
The proposed investment by MSC is expected to be subject to regulatory clearances and the conditions laid down in the concession agreement between the parties.
