In Tirupati district, Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials caught Uppapanni, the Deputy Director of the district fisheries department, red-handed. Subhan, a resident of Gudimallam village, set up a fisheries plant under the Prime Minister's Fisheries Wealth Scheme at a cost of ₹50 lakh in his wife's name. For this project, ₹30 lakh was to be sanctioned as a 60% subsidy. The victim reported to the ACB that Deputy Director Reddanna demanded a bribe of ₹3 lakh to grant administrative approval for this subsidy.
Acting on the complaint, ACB officials caught Reddanna red-handed while he was receiving ₹1 lakh as the first installment through another person. Subsequently, ACB officials registered a case and are conducting further investigations into the incident by carrying out searches at the fisheries department office.
