Major Relief for Protestors: Cases Filed Between 2021 and 2026 to Be Withdrawn

Chennai: In a major announcement in the Assembly, Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay said that his government will withdraw all cases registered against farmers and teachers during various protests held between 2021 and 2026.

Making a suo motu statement in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said the protests were carried out to democratically and peacefully convey the demands and grievances of farmers and teachers to the then government.

The Chief Minister said his government considers such democratic protests part of the people’s right to express their concerns. He announced that all cases filed against the protesters during the period would be withdrawn, providing major relief to those facing legal proceedings over the agitations.

The announcement is expected to bring relief to hundreds of farmers and teachers who were booked in connection with various protests over the past five years.

Government Sends Strong Message on Democratic Protests CM Vijay said the decision reflects his government’s commitment to respecting democratic rights and addressing the concerns of farmers and teachers.

The move could also become a significant political statement, signalling a shift in the government’s approach towards cases arising out of public protests.

With the announcement in the Assembly, attention now turns to the implementation of the withdrawal process and the number of cases that will be formally dropped.
