Heavy Pilgrim Rush at Vijayawada’s Indrakeeladri

Heavy pilgrim turnout at Vijayawada’s Indrakeeladri prompts free darshan, crowd-control measures and revised access arrangements for devotees.

Vijayawada’s Indrakeeladri witnessed a major surge in devotees on 1 October, as the Gandhi Jayanti holiday coincided with Friday, considered auspicious for Goddess Durga.

From 8am, the temple and queue lines were packed. To ease the rush, temple authorities offered completely free darshan to all devotees between 10am and 3pm, cancelling all darshan tickets during the window.

With ghat road repairs diverting movement towards the Maha Mandapam, crowding intensified and lifts were temporarily suspended for safety.

Devotees were instead guided via the ramp and old steps. Executive Officer V.K. Sheena Naik inspected arrangements, directing staff to provide drinking water continuously and ensure smooth darshan.
