A special pilgrimage train carrying 1,060 devotees from 21 prominent temples across Andhra Pradesh departed Vijayawada for Veraval in Gujarat under the ‘Somnath Swabhiman Parv’. The 18-coach FTR service was flagged off by Government Whip Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, NTR District Collector Dr G. Lakshmisha and Endowments Commissioner K. Ramachandra Mohan.

The year-long national initiative marks 1,000 years since the historic attack on the Somnath temple and 75 years since its post-Independence reconstruction. A 100-member cultural troupe is also travelling to showcase Andhra Pradesh’s artistic traditions.

Officials said food, accommodation, drinking water, medical care, local transport and temple visits have been arranged, with dedicated coordinators overseeing pilgrims throughout the journey.
