New Delhi, April 16, 2026:

A major aviation scare unfolded at Indira Gandhi International Airport when two commercial aircraft—operated by SpiceJet and Akasa Air—reportedly collided during ground or low-altitude maneuvering on Thursday.

According to initial reports, a SpiceJet aircraft struck an Akasa Air plane, leading to visible damage to the wings of both aircraft. The impact triggered immediate emergency protocols at the airport, with fire and rescue teams rushing to the scene within minutes.

Authorities confirmed that all passengers and crew members onboard both flights are safe, with no injuries reported. The quick response by ground staff and adherence to safety protocols helped avert what could have been a far more serious incident.

Preliminary assessments suggest the collision may have occurred during taxiing, though officials have not ruled out other possibilities. Aviation regulators have launched a detailed investigation to determine the exact cause and accountability.

Flight operations at the airport faced temporary disruption following the incident, with several departures and arrivals delayed. Officials assured that normal operations are being gradually restored as safety checks continue.
