Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday warned that the ongoing conflict in the Gulf region is likely to have a serious impact on India’s economy over the next two months, urging citizens to prepare for sacrifices and adopt stricter financial discipline.

Addressing a large BJP public meeting in Hyderabad, Modi said rising tensions in West Asia could push up crude oil prices, increase transportation costs, and trigger inflationary pressure across the country. He appealed to people to reduce petroleum consumption and use fuel only when absolutely necessary.

In a direct message to the middle class, the Prime Minister advised families to avoid unnecessary expenses, postpone non-essential air travel, and manage household budgets carefully. He said the coming weeks may require every citizen to act responsibly to protect the nation’s economic stability.

Modi encouraged people to use buses, metro services, and other public transport systems instead of private vehicles. He also urged consumers planning to buy new vehicles to consider electric alternatives as part of India’s long-term strategy to reduce dependence on imported crude oil.

Stressing that the government is closely monitoring the global situation, Modi said India has the resilience to overcome external shocks, but public cooperation will be crucial. He added that Telangana and Hyderabad can play an important role in promoting energy-efficient and sustainable lifestyles.

The Prime Minister’s remarks underline growing concerns over the economic fallout of geopolitical tensions in the Gulf, with oil prices and supply chains emerging as key areas of focus for policymakers and households alike.
