A massive fire at a girls’ boarding school in Kenya has claimed the lives of at least 16 students and left dozens injured. The tragic incident happened late at night when a dormitory suddenly caught fire while students were sleeping.
The blaze broke out at a school in Gilgil town, located in Kenya’s Nakuru County. Panic spread quickly as students rushed to escape from the burning building. Rescue teams and local residents joined efforts to save trapped students.
Several injured students were shifted to nearby hospitals for treatment. Authorities said many suffered burns and breathing difficulties caused by smoke inhalation. Emergency services continued rescue and relief operations through the night.
Police and fire officials have launched an investigation to find out what caused the deadly blaze. School safety standards and emergency preparedness are also being reviewed after the tragedy.
