BUNIA (DR Congo), June 12:2026

The Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo has claimed the lives of two infants living in an orphanage, drawing renewed attention to the dangers the deadly virus poses to children. Health officials say the cases emerged in an area already battling a rise in infections, prompting intensified monitoring and response efforts.

Medical teams have been conducting screenings and contact tracing to identify anyone who may have been exposed to the virus. Several children and caregivers connected to the affected facility were placed under observation as a precaution, while health workers continued efforts to contain further transmission.

Experts warn that infants and young children are among the most vulnerable during Ebola outbreaks due to their developing immune systems and dependence on close caregiving. In regions with limited healthcare resources, the challenges of protecting children from infection become even greater.

Authorities and humanitarian organizations are expanding awareness campaigns, treatment services, and community outreach programs to curb the spread of the disease. Public health officials have urged residents to report symptoms early and cooperate with medical teams to help prevent additional fatalities.
