New Delhi, June 23:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for 15 states, warning of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 80 kmph in some regions over the next 24 hours.
States including Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand are likely to witness unstable weather conditions as a strong weather system moves across northern and eastern India.
According to the forecast, several districts in Bihar and West Bengal could experience intense thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds of 60-80 kmph, raising concerns over possible damage to crops, power lines, and weak structures.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also expected in parts of Odisha, Assam, and other northeastern states, increasing the risk of localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, heatwave conditions may continue in isolated pockets of eastern Uttar Pradesh and the Vidarbha region despite the advancing monsoon activity in many parts of the country.
Authorities have advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and follow local weather advisories. Travelers and farmers have also been urged to stay alert as conditions may change rapidly.
