: "We Are Coming Back": Hasina Camp Signals Dramatic Return to Bangladesh Amid Mass Arrest Claims
The political temperature in Bangladesh is rising again as Awami League leader Mohibul Chowdhury announced that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and several party leaders are preparing to return to the country despite mounting legal and political pressure.
Chowdhury claimed that the majority of Awami League leaders remain inside Bangladesh, while more than 140 former MPs, local chairpersons and municipal mayors are currently behind bars. According to him, only a small number of leaders managed to leave the country and seek asylum abroad.
He said the party's immediate priority is securing the release of detained leaders who have allegedly been imprisoned without trial and ensuring that restrictions imposed on the Awami League are removed
. Referring to Sheikh Hasina's position, Chowdhury stated that the former Prime Minister expects Bangladesh's judiciary, police, military and border security forces to act strictly according to the law. He added that Hasina and her supporters are willing to return to Bangladesh, surrender before authorities if required, and rejoin normal political activities once legal processes are ensured
. The remarks are expected to intensify the country's already volatile political climate and could set the stage for a major confrontation over the future of Bangladesh's political landscape.
