Breaking News

New Delhi | July 19:

The Opposition walked out of the all-party meeting ahead of the Monsoon Session, protesting the Centre's decision to invite 20 rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) MPs. The move triggered a political showdown, with Opposition leaders accusing the government of granting legitimacy to defectors before their parliamentary status is formally settled.

TMC MP Mahua Moitra strongly objected to the invitation and questioned the basis on which the rebel lawmakers were called to the meeting. She asked what authority or grounds the Parliamentary Affairs Minister had used to invite the 20 MPs despite the ongoing dispute over their status.

Opposition parties alleged that the government was attempting to strengthen the rebel faction politically while issues related to recognition and disqualification remain unresolved. They termed the invitation a serious departure from established parliamentary conventions.

The row comes at a time when the status of the rebel TMC MPs remains under scrutiny, adding to the political tension ahead of the Monsoon Session. The controversy is expected to dominate parliamentary proceedings in the coming days as both the government and the Opposition prepare for a heated confrontation
