Damascus: At least 35 people lost their lives and several others were injured after two passenger buses collided on the Deir al-Zor–Damascus highway in Syria on Saturday, according to official sources.
The crash took place on a major highway connecting eastern and central Syria. Emergency teams rushed to the accident site, where rescue operations continued for several hours to evacuate victims and provide medical assistance to the injured.
Authorities said the injured were shifted to nearby hospitals, with some reported to be in critical condition. The exact cause of the collision has not yet been confirmed, and an official investigation has been launched.
Officials are working to identify all the victims while assessing the circumstances that led to the fatal accident. The tragedy is one of the deadliest road accidents reported in the region in recent times.
