Telangana’s New Education Policy to Target Gen Alpha, Gen Beta: Revanth Reddy

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has announced that the state’s proposed new education policy will focus on preparing Gen Alpha and Gen Beta students for global competition. Speaking during a short discussion on education in the Assembly, the Chief Minister said Telangana would adopt the best educational practices from across the world and invited suggestions from legislators and stakeholders to shape the new policy

. Revanth Reddy said an Education Commission has already been constituted to formulate the policy, with K. Keshava Rao leading the process of examining the recommendations. He said the government wants Telangana students to receive quality education capable of competing at the global level. The Chief Minister also stressed that suggestions from Assembly members would be considered while finalising the policy.

The government’s long-term objective is to increase education spending to 15 per cent of the annual budget outlay, Revanth Reddy said. He pointed out that the education budget increased from ₹19,093 crore in 2023-24 under the previous government to ₹21,292 crore in 2024-25, ₹23,108 crore in 2025-26 and ₹26,647 crore in 2026-27. According to the Chief Minister, this represents an increase of ₹7,554 crore in three years

. Revanth Reddy highlighted several measures aimed at strengthening government education, including pre-primary education and English-medium learning. He said 64,000 children were enrolled in pre-primary education during the first year. The government has also introduced meals for students and teachers from nursery to Class 12 and expanded centralised kitchens to provide hygienic food. He claimed that government-school enrolment had increased by 86,000 students since he took charge of the education portfolio.

The Chief Minister said education was a personal passion and described classrooms as the foundation of the country’s future. He said 10,006 teacher vacancies were filled within 55 days during the first year of his government through a transparent recruitment process, contrasting this with 7,857 teacher appointments during the previous BRS government’s 10-year tenure. Revanth Reddy also recalled former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s contribution to strengthening education and irrigation and said several major educational institutions in the country and erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh were established during Congress rule.
