New Delhi: Tensions flared in the Arabian Sea after an Indian Navy warship and a Pakistan Navy vessel collided during Pakistan’s naval exercise ‘Sea Spark–26’ on September 15, triggering a diplomatic face-off between the two countries.
Pakistan summoned an Indian diplomatic official and accused the Indian warship of approaching its vessel dangerously and making an aggressive manoeuvre that led to the collision. Islamabad alleged that the incident violated international maritime law as well as the 1991 India-Pakistan agreement..
India rejected Pakistan’s allegations and presented a sharply different account. Indian authorities said the Pakistani vessel Hunaain approached the Indian warship at high speed and acted recklessly, resulting in the collision.
The Indian Ministry of External Affairs clarified that the incident occurred in international waters. Officials said the Pakistani vessel suffered significant damage, while the Indian warship escaped with no major damage.
The collision has now triggered mutual diplomatic complaints, adding a fresh flashpoint to already sensitive India-Pakistan maritime relations. Further details about the circumstances surrounding the collision are expected as both sides examine the incident.
