Riyadh: A preliminary investigation by Saudi authorities has revealed a shocking development in the Flydubai flight emergency that forced an aircraft travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv to make an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia.
Saudi Arabia’s Interior Ministry said the initial inquiry found that the co-pilot allegedly assaulted the captain while the aircraft was in flight. Both pilots sustained injuries during the incident.
The flight was diverted to Tabuk in northwestern Saudi Arabia, where it landed safely following the emergency. The investigation was carried out by Saudi authorities with the involvement of a security team from the United Arab Emirates.
The incident involved a Flydubai passenger aircraft carrying 174 people. Following the emergency, the pilots received medical attention in Tabuk, while arrangements were made to transport the passengers to their destination.
The UAE authorities are also examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Officials are expected to establish what led to the confrontation inside the cockpit and whether there was any prior indication of a dispute between the two pilots.
The Saudi Interior Ministry described the findings as preliminary, indicating that the investigation is still underway. Further details about the cause of the confrontation and the circumstances that preceded the assault are expected as the inquiry progresses.
