Goa, October 8: Another severe tragedy for the Indian film industry. Prominent actor and director Nana Patekar (75) has passed away. He suffered a severe health crisis and lost consciousness at his residence in Goa early Thursday morning. Despite doctors performing CPR for nearly 45 minutes after he was rushed to the hospital, they were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at 5:20 AM.
Born as Vishwanath Patekar, Nana Patekar has remained in the hearts of millions. Born on January 1, 1951, in Murud, Maharashtra, he began his acting journey through the theater. He made his film debut in 1978 with the movie Gaman. Since then, he earned a distinct recognition with diverse and powerful roles in Hindi and Marathi films.
A rare honor with three National Awards: Nana Patekar received National Film Awards for Best Supporting Actor for the film Parinda, Best Actor for the film Krantiveer, and Best Supporting Actor for the film Agnisakshi. In 2013, the central government honored him with the Padma Shri.
Not only as an actor but also as a director and writer, he showcased his talent. He directed and starred in the film Prahaar: The Final Attack in 1991. He entertained audiences with his role as Uday Shetty in Welcome and displayed his acting prowess in the role of a stage actor in Natasaamrat.
Not just in cinema, but also for society: Alongside his film career, Nana Patekar actively participated in social service. Through the Naam Foundation, he stood by farmers and drought-affected areas. He initiated several programs for the welfare of farmers.
