A controversy broke out at a NEET examination centre in Ajmer after a candidate alleged that she was denied entry because she refused to remove her burqa before entering the examination premises.
Kulsum Bano, who had travelled from Beawar to appear for the medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency, claimed that officials initially objected to her dupatta and later insisted that she remove her burqa as well.
Speaking to reporters, the candidate said she had appeared for an earlier NEET examination in the same attire without any issues. She questioned why objections were being raised this time despite what she described as existing permissions under examination guidelines.
The incident quickly triggered debate over exam security protocols and the rights of candidates to wear religious attire. Kulsum maintained that her identity and personal beliefs were more important than the examination itself and accused authorities of creating unnecessary distress for students.
Officials at the centre have not yet issued a detailed statement on the allegations. It remains unclear whether the dispute stemmed from security verification procedures or a misunderstanding regarding examination dress-code rules.
The episode has sparked strong reactions on social media, with many calling for clear and uniform guidelines to prevent confusion and ensure that candidates are treated fairly while maintaining examination security.
