Islamabad, April 9, 2026:
Shehbaz Sharif held a telephonic conversation with Nawaf Salam on Wednesday evening, strongly condemning Israel’s ongoing military actions in Lebanon and expressing deep sorrow over the heavy loss of civilian lives.
During the call, Sharif denounced what he described as “continued aggression” by Israel against Lebanon, which has reportedly resulted in thousands of casualties. He conveyed Pakistan’s heartfelt condolences to the Lebanese people and government during this difficult time.
The Pakistani Prime Minister reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to promoting regional peace and stability. He emphasized Pakistan’s willingness to play a constructive diplomatic role, including facilitating dialogue in the upcoming talks between Iran and the United States, expected to be hosted in Islamabad.
In response, Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s proactive peace efforts. He stressed the urgent need for international support to bring an immediate halt to the attacks targeting Lebanon and its civilians.
Both leaders agreed on the importance of continued diplomatic engagement to de-escalate tensions and work toward a sustainable ceasefire in the region.
