China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has called for improved relations between Thailand and Cambodia, urging both nations to maintain peace and stability after recent tensions. The appeal came during his official visit to Bangkok, where he met Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charvirakul, according to a statement released by the Thai government on Friday.

The discussions follow two rounds of armed clashes along the Thailand–Cambodia border last year, which raised concerns over regional security. While the situation has since de-escalated, underlying tensions remain, prompting diplomatic efforts to prevent further conflict. Wang Yi emphasized dialogue and cooperation as key to ensuring long-term stability between the neighboring countries.

Thailand welcomed China’s constructive role in promoting regional peace, noting Beijing’s influence in Southeast Asia. Both sides also reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties, particularly in trade, infrastructure, and security cooperation, amid shifting geopolitical dynamics in the region.

China has consistently advocated for peaceful dispute resolution in Southeast Asia, positioning itself as a stabilizing force. Observers say Wang Yi’s visit underscores Beijing’s strategic interest in maintaining calm along critical borders, especially as economic and security partnerships deepen across the region.
