Beijing, May 14: U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about relations with Xi Jinping, saying the United States and China are poised to have a “fantastic future together.”

Speaking at the start of bilateral talks in Beijing, Trump said both nations have a unique opportunity to strengthen ties and expand cooperation on trade, investment, and global security issues. He added that constructive engagement between Washington and Beijing would benefit not only the two countries but the wider world.

Xi Jinping welcomed Trump and stressed the importance of maintaining stable and predictable relations between the world’s two largest economies. He said China is ready to work with the United States to manage differences and pursue areas of mutual interest.

The meeting comes amid ongoing tensions over tariffs, technology restrictions, Taiwan, and geopolitical disputes. However, Trump’s positive remarks have fueled hopes that both sides may seek to ease friction and revive high-level dialogue.

Global markets and diplomatic observers are closely monitoring the summit, as any breakthrough between Washington and Beijing could have significant implications for international trade and global economic stability.
