Beijing | May 20, 2026 In a significant diplomatic development, senior Chinese official Liu Jinsong held talks with India’s newly appointed Ambassador to China, Vikram K. Doraiswami, signaling renewed efforts by both nations to stabilize and improve bilateral relations after years of tensions.
Liu Jinsong, Director General of the Department of Asian Affairs at China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said recent meetings between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kazan and Tianjin had provided a strategic roadmap for the future of China-India relations.
According to Liu, both countries should adhere to the understanding that China and India are “cooperative partners rather than rivals” and should view each other as development opportunities rather than threats. He stressed that economic growth and national development remain the strongest common interests between the two Asian giants.
The Chinese side also called for expanded exchanges and practical cooperation across multiple sectors while emphasizing the importance of managing differences through dialogue. Beijing said it is committed to working with New Delhi to ensure a sustained improvement in bilateral ties.
The meeting comes at a crucial time as both nations seek to rebuild trust and deepen engagement in trade, investment, and regional diplomacy. The appointment of Ambassador Doraiswami is seen as a key step in strengthening communication channels and advancing a more stable and constructive relationship between the world’s two most populous nations.
