Senior U.S. Republican leader and Senator Mitch McConnell has confirmed that a fall was responsible for his recent hospitalisation, putting an end to weeks of questions surrounding his health and absence from public view. McConnell disclosed that the incident occurred at his residence and required medical treatment and observation.

The veteran lawmaker said doctors carried out several examinations to rule out any serious complications and monitored his condition during recovery.

 The former Senate Republican leader's absence had sparked speculation in political circles and across social media, with many seeking clarity about his health. His statement marks the first detailed explanation regarding the circumstances that led to his hospital stay.

Despite recent health challenges, McConnell indicated that he intends to continue serving in the Senate while focusing on his recovery.
