Bordeaux, France:
A fast-moving wildfire in southwest France has triggered one of the country's largest evacuation efforts in recent years, with around 220,000 people forced to leave their homes as flames continue to spread toward the city of Bordeaux.
Authorities ordered an additional 55,000 residents to evacuate after the fire expanded rapidly due to intense heat, dry vegetation and strong winds. The blaze has consumed vast forest areas, threatened homes and disrupted transport across the region.
Thousands of firefighters, backed by helicopters and firefighting aircraft, are battling the flames around the clock in an effort to stop the wildfire from reaching more populated areas. Emergency shelters have been opened to accommodate displaced families, while officials continue to monitor changing weather conditions.
Residents have been urged to follow evacuation orders immediately, as authorities warn the fire could spread further if high temperatures and strong winds persist. Smoke from the wildfire has reduced visibility in several areas and affected air quality.
The wildfire is part of a broader wave of extreme weather affecting parts of Europe, where prolonged heat and drought have increased the risk of large-scale forest fires during the summer season.
