Nigel Farage faces a bizarre Clacton by-election challenge from comedian Count Binface, as voters test Reform UK’s populist appeal in a closely watched race.

Clacton-on-Sea, UK, August 14, 2026:

Votes are being counted in a closely watched local by-election in the seaside resort of Clacton, where the political spotlight has turned firmly on Reform UK leader Nigel Farage and his unusual challenger, comedian Jonathan Harvey, better known to voters as Count Binface.

Farage is seeking a return to Parliament in a contest that is being viewed as another test of the growing appeal of his populist political brand. His campaign has attracted national attention, while the presence of Count Binface has added an extraordinary twist to the race.

Harvey is campaigning in his trademark trash-can costume, using satire and comedy to challenge established political figures. Count Binface has previously contested elections in Britain, turning political campaigns into a platform for humour, protest and criticism of mainstream politics.

The Clacton contest is particularly significant because Farage has built his political career around issues including immigration, Brexit and opposition to the political establishment. A strong performance for Reform UK would reinforce the party’s claim that it is becoming a major force in British politics.
