Washington: US President Donald Trump appears to be facing a growing challenge among Indian-American voters ahead of the November 2026 midterm elections, with a new survey indicating a significant preference for Democratic candidates.
According to the survey, around 66% of Indian-American voters said they would support Democratic candidates in House races, while only 22% indicated support for Republicans.
70% of Asian-Americans View Trump Unfavorably
Trump's standing among the wider Asian-American electorate also remains weak. The survey found that approximately 70% of Asian-American voters hold an unfavorable view of the President. Economic concerns are emerging as a major factor shaping voter sentiment. Inflation, the rising cost of living and financial pressures on households are among the issues expected to influence voting decisions in the upcoming midterms.
2024 Gains Under Pressure?
Trump made gains among sections of the Indian-American community during the 2024 presidential election. However, the latest survey suggests that Republicans may face difficulties in retaining that support as the 2026 midterm campaign intensifies.
Indian-Americans have become an increasingly important voting bloc in several closely contested congressional districts. Even a relatively small shift in their voting preferences could have an impact in tight races. With the November elections approaching, both Democrats and Republicans are expected to intensify their outreach to Indian-American and broader Asian-American communities.
