WASHINGTON: The United States lost at least 18 military personnel and 40 aircraft during its war with Iran, according to a report submitted by the Pentagon Inspector General to Congress. The report also revealed that 417 US troops were wounded during the conflict.
The report said 14 US service members were killed between February 28 and June 30, while another four died in July. The figures highlight the heavy human cost suffered by American forces during the war.
Weapons Stocks Under Pressure
The conflict also placed significant pressure on US weapons stockpiles. According to the report, the Pentagon identified industrial bottlenecks affecting weapons production and supply, raising concerns over America's ability to replenish critical military inventories.
The findings appear to challenge earlier claims by the Donald Trump administration that the country's weapons stockpiles were sufficient to meet wartime requirements.
$33.4 Billion War Cost
The Pentagon estimated that the war had already cost the United States around $33.4 billion as of June 29—approximately ₹2.78 lakh crore. The estimate does not include the cost of repairing damaged military infrastructure.
The Inspector General's report further stated that hundreds of buildings and other structures at US military bases across the Gulf region were damaged during the conflict.
The revelations are likely to intensify scrutiny in Washington over the true cost, military losses and preparedness of the United States following its confrontation with Iran.
