Seoul: South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has made it clear that Seoul will not deploy its military forces to West Asia amid the escalating tensions involving Iran and the United States
. President Lee rejected US President Donald Trump’s call for countries to send troops in support of US military operations against Iran. Seoul, however, is considering measures to protect commercial vessels, crude oil shipments and the safety of South Korean citizens in the region.
The South Korean government is reportedly examining options to strengthen maritime security and safeguard the movement of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial route for global energy supplies.
The development comes as tensions surrounding Iran and the strategic waterway remain a major concern for countries dependent on Middle Eastern oil supplies. South Korea, a major energy importer, is closely monitoring the situation and assessing measures to protect its economic and security interests.
While ruling out the deployment of combat troops, President Lee indicated that South Korea could consider maritime protection measures to ensure the safe passage of commercial and energy-related vessels.
