New York: In a stunning attack on the world’s top diplomatic body, Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has declared that the United Nations is losing credibility as wars and conflicts continue to intensify across the globe.
Lula said the UN is failing in its core mission of preventing conflicts and called for an urgent revival of its diplomatic and mediation powers. He also demanded long-awaited reforms to the UN Security Council, arguing that the organisation must become more effective in tackling global crises.
His blunt remarks come as international pressure mounts over the UN’s response to major conflicts. Lula stressed that negotiations and mediation must regain a central place in global diplomacy. Meanwhile,
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan made a strong appeal for the immediate reconstruction of Gaza. He called on the international community to step up pressure on Israel and intensify efforts to address the humanitarian crisis.
Lula’s explosive remarks, coupled with Erdoğan’s call for action on Gaza, have thrust the UN’s credibility, Security Council reforms and the organisation’s role in global conflicts back into the international spotlight.
