Hyderabad: Rajendranagar police have arrested Surya Kumar, popularly known as "Gold Man" Surya Bhai, on charges of allegedly cheating a man of ₹32 lakh by promising to supply gold imported from abroad at a discounted price.
According to the complaint lodged at the Attapur Police Station, the accused allegedly collected ₹32 lakh from the victim after claiming he could arrange low-cost imported gold. However, the promised gold was never delivered.
Police said the accused also allegedly misrepresented his influence by claiming he was close to the Chief Minister and had business ties with former Hyderabad Police Commissioner C. V. Anand Sajjanar to gain the victim's trust.
Based on the complaint, police registered a case, investigated the allegations, and arrested Surya Kumar. Further investigation is underway to determine whether more people were duped using the same modus operandi.
Police have advised the public to remain cautious of offers promising gold at unusually low prices and to verify the authenticity of such claims before making any payments.
