As part of intensified monsoon preparedness, Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation Commissioner Vinay Krishna Reddy has directed officials to keep MET teams on 24x7 standby and expedite all flood mitigation and drainage improvement works across the corporation limits.
During an extensive inspection of Yapral Lakshmipuri Colony, SS Enclave, Employees Colony, Swandra, Balaji Nagar and Chandrapuri Colony on Saturday, the Commissioner reviewed waterlogging hotspots, stormwater drains, nala connectivity and ongoing infrastructure projects.
He instructed officials to intensify desilting operations, strengthen the stormwater drainage network, complete underground nala connectivity before the onset of heavy rainfall and install additional catch pits at vulnerable locations to ensure the uninterrupted flow of rainwater. Expressing concern over illegal garbage dumping on vacant land, the Commissioner ordered immediate clearance of the waste and directed officials to identify the offenders and initiate strict enforcement action to prevent further violations.
At Swandra, he instructed officials to construct a temporary open trench to divert excess rainwater into Nagireddy Kunta, ensuring nearby residential colonies remain protected from flooding and water stagnation. Reviewing the situation at Balaji Nagar and Chandrapuri Colony,
the Commissioner directed HYDRAA and MET teams to remain on high alert throughout the monsoon, carry out regular desilting of drains and nalas, expedite culvert construction works, maintain proper drainage gradients from Malkaram Cheruvu to the leachate pond, and complete all pending flood mitigation works on priority to minimise waterlogging and safeguard public safety.
