A. Vijayendherreddy:The Food Safety Wing of the Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation conducted a surprise joint inspection at MasterChef Restaurant near Uppal Cross Roads on July 1 as part of its drive to ensure safe and hygienic food for the public.
Following the inspection, officials imposed a ₹25,000 fine for multiple violations of food safety standards and announced that a formal notice would also be issued to the restaurant management.
During the inspection, officials found several serious lapses, including the presence of flies and cockroaches in the store room and dining area, improper storage of non-vegetarian food without maintaining the required temperature and hygiene standards, uncovered food items posing a risk of cross-contamination, failure to maintain refrigerator temperature logs, poor personal hygiene among food handlers, uncovered waste bins, an unhygienic store room without pallets for food storage, absence of pest control records, and missing mandatory labels on certain food products. Municipal officials stated that inspections will continue across hotels, restaurants, bakeries and other food establishments under the directions of the Municipal Commissioner.
They warned that strict action will be taken against businesses violating the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and urged all food business operators to maintain hygiene and provide safe, quality food to consumers.
