Will the 'West Bengal Formula' Work for BJP in Telangana?

 Will the Bharatiya Janata Party be able to replicate its West Bengal strategy in Telangana? Can the party emerge victorious in the next Assembly elections and stake claim to power in the state? These questions are increasingly becoming the subject of political debate in Telangana.

While political analysts remain divided over BJP's prospects in the state, there appears to be a sense of uncertainty even within sections of the party ranks. Despite steady efforts by state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao, the party is yet to establish a strong grassroots presence in several constituencies across Telangana.

Many observers believe that BJP continues to rely heavily on the popularity and political appeal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other national leaders to strengthen its position in the state. The party leadership is also said to be confident that its national agenda and campaign narrative will resonate with voters during the elections

. However, there is no complete consensus within the party on this strategy. Recent remarks by Malkajgiri MP Etala Rajender, who stated that Telangana comes first for him, followed by the nation and then his personal interests, have sparked discussions within political circles and among party workers about the balance between regional aspirations and national ideology.

Party insiders also point to concerns over organisational weaknesses and the need for stronger local leadership. Some workers feel that decision-making is heavily influenced by leaders from outside the state and that local leadership should be given greater importance in shaping the party's strategy in Telangana

. As things stand, BJP faces the challenge of not only retaining its existing political presence in the state but also expanding its footprint ahead of the next Assembly elections. Whether the party can convert national popularity into electoral success in Telangana remains one of the key political questions in the state's evolving political landscape.
