Hyderabad, September 9: A 42-year-old woman from Boduppal has approached the police after allegedly facing harassment and threats from unidentified persons over repayment of a loan obtained through the Vardhan app.
According to the complaint, the woman began receiving calls from unknown individuals demanding repayment of the loan. The callers allegedly resorted to intimidation when she was unable to meet their demands.
Daughter’s morphed photos allegedly used to threaten family
The accused allegedly sent morphed photographs of the woman’s daughter and threatened to circulate them on social media if the loan amount was not repaid.
The incident has raised concerns over the misuse of digital lending platforms and the harassment tactics allegedly employed by recovery agents or unidentified callers.
Police have taken the complaint on record and are looking into the identities of the persons involved, as well as the source and circulation of the morphed images.

The case highlights the risks associated with unauthorised or questionable digital lending applications, particularly when borrowers or their family members are subjected to threats, intimidation and privacy violations.
Police are expected to examine the phone numbers used to contact the woman, digital communications and other electronic evidence as part of the investigation.
Authorities have also advised victims facing similar harassment to preserve call records, messages, screenshots and other digital evidence and report threats to the police or appropriate cybercrime authorities.
