High Court Ruling Vacates Khairatabad Seat.. Candidate Hunt Among Three Parties.. Changing Political Equations
Hyderabad: Political heat in Khairatabad has suddenly intensified. With the Telangana High Court declaring MLA Danam Nagender disqualified, a path has been paved for a by-election in the constituency. The court considered it significant that Danam Nagender, who was an MLA for BRS, is contesting as a Congress candidate from Secunderabad in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Consequently, the High Court announced that the Khairatabad assembly seat is now vacant. However, Danam Nagender has approached the Supreme Court challenging this ruling.
The statistics from the last elections have now become a major topic of discussion.
In the 2023 assembly elections, Danam Nagender contested on behalf of BRS and won with 67,368 votes. Congress candidate P. Vijayareddy received 45,358 votes, while BJP candidate Chintala Ramachandra Reddy garnered 38,094 votes. Danam Nagender won by a majority of 22,010 votes. Keeping these figures in mind, the three parties are assessing their strengths.
The results of the last parliamentary elections have become crucial for the BJP.
Party leaders are recalling the support the BJP received in the Secunderabad Lok Sabha constituency. National issues and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership were central to the election campaign in urban areas at that time. However, with the by-election likely to revolve entirely around local politics, candidate selection, local cadre, and booth-level strength have become critical factors for the BJP.
In the Congress camp, political movements have gained momentum.
Names like Danam Nagender and Vijayareddy are already prominent in the constituency's political landscape. There is an effort within Congress to strengthen relationships with local leaders and activists, promote government schemes, and advance development issues. However, the final candidate on behalf of the party for the by-election still needs to be officially decided.
The suspense over the BJP's candidacy continues.
Will Chintala Ramachandra Reddy, who contested in 2023, enter the fray again? Or will the party give a chance to a new face? This has now become a topic of discussion within party circles. On the other hand, coordination with local leadership and cadre, and retaining the votes garnered in the last elections will be crucial for the BJP.
For BRS, this by-election is set to be another significant test.
The party, which won from this constituency in the last assembly elections, now finds itself in a position where it needs to bring a new candidate into the arena. While discussions are ongoing in political circles about fielding a candidate from the Thalasani Srinivas Yadav family, an official announcement is still awaited. There are also discussions in political circles about differing opinions from local leadership on this matter.
For all three parties, Khairatabad is now a prestigious battleground. The 2023 assembly results are one calculation, while the subsequent developments have become another. The Supreme Court's developments regarding Danam Nagender's disqualification, the by-election schedule, candidate selection, local issues, and cadre strength—all these factors will collectively determine the political equations in Khairatabad. Currently, however, the discussion of "Who owns Khairatabad?" has become a hot topic among political circles in Hyderabad.
