1.48 Kg Gold Recovered from Passenger at RGIA; Concealed Under Clothes in Specially Designed Pouch
Hyderabad, October 6:
The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Hyderabad Zonal Unit, has seized 1,481.780 grams of foreign-origin gold valued at approximately ₹2.25 crore at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA), Hyderabad.
Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers intercepted a passenger at the airport following information about foreign-origin gold allegedly concealed inside an aircraft during its preceding international journey. The passenger was travelling on the same aircraft during its onward domestic journey to Hyderabad.
During a detailed search, officers recovered six pieces of foreign-origin gold, collectively weighing 1,481.780 grams. The gold was allegedly wrapped in blue adhesive tape and carbon paper and concealed inside a specially designed pouch worn beneath the passenger’s garments.
During the investigation, the passenger reportedly told DRI officials that he had collected the gold from inside the aircraft, where it had allegedly been concealed during the earlier foreign leg of the flight.
The seized gold, valued at approximately ₹2.25 crore, was confiscated under the provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger was arrested on October 6, 2026, under the relevant provisions of the Act.
The DRI said it continues to strengthen intelligence-led and coordinated enforcement operations to detect and disrupt the smuggling of precious metals and other contraband across the country.
