New Delhi, September 23: Former NSE Managing Director and CEO Chitra Ramkrishna has received a major legal reprieve after the Delhi High Court on Wednesday rejected the CBI’s challenge to the bail granted to her in the alleged illegal phone-tapping case.
Justice Madhu Jain upheld the trial court’s 2022 order that had granted bail to Ramkrishna. The CBI had challenged the bail decision, seeking its cancellation in connection with the case involving allegations of illegal interception of telephone conversations of NSE employees.
The case relates to allegations that phone calls of certain NSE officials were allegedly monitored and intercepted through an arrangement involving a private agency. The alleged phone-tapping has been the subject of a CBI investigation and subsequent legal proceedings.
With the High Court dismissing the CBI’s plea, the bail granted to Ramkrishna by the trial court remains in force. The latest order deals with the bail challenge and does not amount to a final finding on the underlying allegations in the case.
