High alert in Thailand with the arrival of the American Navy ship; police crackdown on sex workers!

Pattaya: Security measures in Pattaya have tightened significantly as the U.S. Navy's massive warship USS Abraham Lincoln arrived at Thailand's Laem Chabang port after nearly 286 days at sea. Local authorities have taken preemptive actions in anticipation of approximately 5,000 U.S. Navy personnel, Marines, and pilots arriving in the Pattaya area from September 2 to 6.

Police Raids on Sex Trade

Officials estimate that the arrival of U.S. Navy personnel may lead to an increase in sex trade activities in Pattaya. Consequently, police have conducted inspections and raids in various areas of the city. Reports indicate that around 40 to 50 sex workers have been taken into custody during these operations.

Although prostitution is illegal in Thailand, regulating activities related to sex tourism and nightlife in Pattaya has become a challenge for authorities. Police have stated that special surveillance has been established to prevent illegal activities in light of the large influx of U.S. Navy personnel.

Restrictions on Certain Areas

In view of the safety of U.S. Navy personnel, Thai authorities have reportedly imposed restrictions on certain areas and activities. Surveillance has been increased in areas with a high concentration of sex workers. Additionally, local sources indicate that restrictions have also been placed on some entertainment and sports activities for Navy personnel.

The Thai government has arranged approximately 40 buses to transport sailors from Laem Chabang port to Pattaya. Along with preparing two hotels for their accommodation, hundreds of police officers are involved in security arrangements.

Tourism Revival in Pattaya

The arrival of U.S. Navy personnel has sparked new hopes among the business community in Pattaya. Local business owners believe that the influx of U.S. Navy personnel will revitalize businesses in Pattaya, which is famous for its nightlife, bars, restaurants, and tourist activities.

Historically, the arrival of American soldiers during the Vietnam War significantly boosted the tourism sector in Pattaya. Currently, with thousands of U.S. personnel coming to the city, businesses estimate an increase in patronage for hotels, restaurants, and other tourist-related enterprises.

However, balancing the safety of Navy personnel with the regulation of illegal activities has become a significant challenge for Thai authorities. Police will maintain special surveillance as long as the Navy ship is stationed off the coast of Pattaya.
