New Delhi: An extremely rare medical condition has come to light in Delhi, where doctors discovered a uterus and fallopian tubes inside the body of a 26-year-old man who had sought medical treatment for infertility.
The unusual condition was detected during routine diagnostic examinations. The young man, who was experiencing fertility-related problems, underwent scans as part of his medical evaluation. The imaging revealed the presence of a uterus and fallopian tubes in his abdomen—reproductive organs typically associated with females.
Doctors identified the condition as Persistent Müllerian Duct Syndrome (PMDS), a rare congenital disorder in which a genetically male individual develops certain female reproductive structures, including a uterus and fallopian tubes.
Medical experts said fewer than 300 such cases have reportedly been documented worldwide, making the condition exceptionally rare and often difficult to diagnose.
Following the diagnosis, doctors performed surgery to remove the uterus and associated structures. The procedure was reportedly successful, and the young man's condition is currently stable.
By the look of Bhagat's condition, Dr. Ajay Mehta, who was assigned his case, thought that he was suffering from a tumor.
