Hyderabad Desk...: Generally, rivers originate in mountains, hills, or elevated areas, traveling hundreds to thousands of kilometers before finally merging into the sea or ocean. However, some rivers in the world are different from this typical river journey.
One such rare river is the Okavango River. Flowing in Africa, the Okavango River travels over 1,500 kilometers. However, unlike other major rivers, it does not flow into the sea. At the end of its journey, it reaches the vast Okavango Delta region in Botswana and spreads out there.
Here, the river water divides into numerous small channels, lakes, and marshy areas. Due to the dry climate of the region, a significant amount of water evaporates. Some of the remaining water seeps into the ground.
That is why the Okavango River loses its flow without reaching the sea. What is even more interesting is that the Okavango Delta is one of the most unique inland deltas in the world, formed in the Kalahari Desert region. This green marshy area created by the river water in the midst of the desert has become a crucial habitat for many animals, birds, and plants.
