Morocco pulled off a stunning upset at the FIFA World Cup 2026, defeating the Netherlands in a dramatic penalty shootout after the teams finished 1-1 following extra time.

The Dutch took the lead in the second half, but Morocco struck a late equaliser to force extra time. With neither side able to find a winner, the match went to penalties, where Morocco held its nerve to seal a famous victory and advance to the Round of 16.

Earlier, Brazil survived a tough challenge from Japan to secure a 2-1 comeback win. After conceding first, the five-time world champions responded with two second-half goals to keep their World Cup campaign alive.

Morocco's victory ranks among the biggest surprises of the tournament so far, while Brazil's resilience ensured the South American giants remain firmly in the hunt for another world title.
