Philadelphia | July 13 Philadelphia Phillies star pitcher Zack Wheeler has declined a late invitation to the 2026 MLB All-Star Game, expressing disappointment over how the selection process unfolded.
Wheeler was not included in the original National League All-Star roster despite producing one of the strongest pitching campaigns in baseball this season. He was also overlooked during the first round of replacement selections announced earlier in the week
. According to Wheeler, MLB officials later approached him with an opportunity to join the squad as an injury replacement. However, the veteran right-hander decided against participating, saying he was uncomfortable being considered only after several other options had been exhausted.
The decision has sparked debate among baseball fans and analysts, many of whom believe Wheeler's performances this season deserved immediate recognition. The Phillies ace has remained a key figure in Philadelphia's push for postseason success.
